I didn't write this reference, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

"Groundhog Day" was of course the 1993 Bill Murray film about a man who keeps reliving the same day. Rob wrote "this comes from Craig's observation that life on the road is a bit like 'Groundhog Day' or even Alzheimer's - each day is both unique and in many respects exactly like the day that preceded it and the one to follow. This led to imagining the scenario of being on the road and realizing that Alzheimer's is setting in, leaving the protagonist strangely suited to continue his life on the road."
