Al Purdy, a great poet who Gord has credited with previous inspiration. A M@W era promo included Gord discussing his being affected by Purdy's death at the moment he was informed of it, by a bookstore clerk, as he bought a Purdy book. A statue of Al Purdy now stands in Queen's Park in downtown Toronto.
